![]() These days, our teenage stars like to upload racy photos of themselves to their Myspace pages and get followed around by photogs while shopping for clothes they don't need. And none of them are blind singer/songwriter/musicians. |
![]() What About Your Friends?
This live video, which is from some televised ceremony around 1986, shows Dionne Warwick singing her hit "That's What Friends Are For," with Stevie Wonder, Luther Vandross, and her cousin, Whitney Houston. It makes me wish that my friends were harmonica-playing soul legends. |
![]() Guess Who's Turning One?
Even though it's now mainly a song older black folks sing badly at birthday parties, Stevie Wonder originally wrote "Happy Birthday" in support of a federal holiday celebrating Martin Luther King, Jr.'s birthday. And now I'm using it to commemorate a momentous occasion: STEREOHYPED'S FIRST BIRTHDAY! *Bells, whistles, fireworks!* A little later, I'll be reminiscing about some of my favorite moments throughout the past year, but for now, Happy Birthday to ya, Stereohyped! |

![]() My father is obsessed with Stevie Wonder. I don't mean he kind of is a fan of the man's music. I mean he loves Stevie Wonder. I mean that one time my sister told him she thought Jodeci's live version of "Lately" was better than Stevie's, and she almost got disowned. So when I hear this song it sort of reminds me of my childhood, because this and others were sort of on a loop in the background of my early years. Although I had no earthly idea what a part-time lover was. |

September 11th wasn't just a big day for Kanye West. His fiance, Alexis Phifer, debuted her clothing line, Ghita, at Bryant Park, as a proud Kanye and his mom looked on.

At Baron Davis and Paul Pierce's LA Stars 'Rodeo Drive Experience'
Paul Pierce and Baron Davis' All-Star Weekend in L.A. was supposed to be about charity, but wouldn't it have been more charitable for this disaster of a couple to stay home? On second thought, they probably bring much entertainment to whatever party they attend. As long as they keep the PDAs to a minimum, that is. Check out more pics from the weekend festivities. ![]() Single Women Scare Tactics
• If George Bush's Homeland Security Department made a documentary about single black woman, this would be it. [WAOD] • Stevie Wonder is planning his first U.S. tour since 1986. [SP] • I know that this is completely uncharacteristic of him, but Akon actually angered some fans at a concert in the UK. [MEN] • An interview going around in which Karrine Steffans unloads all sorts of sordid details about her sexcapades is bogus. Curiously, Steffans has the nerve to be insulted that people would put such words into her mouth. [J-N] • I'm curious as to what makes Kanye West such an expert on wiggers. [MG] |
![]() Happy Loving Day!
I would hazard a guess that most of you don't know this, but today is Loving Day, the anniversary of the Supreme Court decision in Loving vs. Virginia, which made interracial relationships legal a not-so-distant 40 years ago. Now, I understand from the comments on Stereohyped (and, well, life in general) that interracial dating/marriage is not as widely accepted as one might think it would be in 2007, but I believe even the most die hard detractors can agree that it certainly shouldn't be illegal. To commemorate, I have chosen Stevie Wonder and Paul McCartney's duet, Ebony and Ivory for your Rewound-viewing pleasure. Their coming together was not a physical one, true, but was this not a symbolic interracial marriage, at least? Whatever it was, the two icons produced a song that would go down in history but is actually kind of boring when you listen to the whole thing. Nice message, though. Can't the world be like a piano? |
