As if it's not embarrassing enough for Terrence Howard's daughter that her dad, in this day and age, threatened to kill her boyfriend and compared her to an unripened fruit, he's telling the press about it. Somehow, someday, a publicist is going to need to tell him how weird he sounds in interviews. Handle that, publicists!
"She’s supposedly in love with some guy. I made her break up with him, and I’ve threatened to kill him. I was like, you picked a green fruit from the tree that’s far from ripe… [I told her],I’ve set a lot of things aside for you, but those things are only yours as long as you’re obedient to me.. She’s OK now. Though, I’m sure he’s still kind of her boyfriend. This summer I’ll take her off to another country where her phone won’t work, and he’ll start dating someone else."
Eww all the way around.
He will run the risk of her rebelling against that kind of dominance. But why is this so weird? It's old school and I say thank God he is there as a father and actually used the word obedience to boot.
Yeah I agree, and besides he knows the kid dating his daughter better than she does…the dynamic with teens and pre-teens is that simple, once she's out of site that kid will move on to the next girl.
They named their daughter Heavenly? I dislike that more than Apple …
What a hypocrite. He's running around, sleeping with women and freak out that his own DAUGHTER actually wants to start dating.
i'm sorry, but no where in his response does he say that the boyfriend is a bad kid or a bad influence. if that were the case, i'd totally get it. granted, it's his child and he (hopefully) knows what boundaries are appropriate, but based on his statement this sounds a bit extreme. to me, this just makes him all the more creepy.
Terrence is right on this. Although, he'll have to come up with a plan other than taking her to a foreign country everytime she gets a "boyfriend".
@Lauren: I don't think that publicist exists. LOLOL!!!
@BoredKidz: Most fathers freak out when their daughters become interested in boys. And she's only 14. There are way more important things for her to be doing and thinking about than having a boyfriend!!! She'll have plenty of time for that later!!!
And men like Terrence tend to freak out b/c the thought of a boy doing to his daughter the things he has done to women…makes them sick to their stomachs.
@ chynadoll–…which sorta begs the question: why is he (and men like him) doing to someone else's daughter what they don't want done to their own?
@ Cruel Secretary: exactly. That's what I meant by calling Terrence Howard a hypocrite.
@TheCruelSecretary: I agree with you totally. I was in no way defending Terrence Howard or other men like him.
Men like that don't EVER think about what they do to other men's daughters until they have their own. I find it so ironic when womanizing men, like THoward, have children, they usually have DAUGHTERS. Call it karma, sowing/reaping or whatever…I think it's only fair that the same fear they put in the hearts of other fathers, they should experience it in return. JMO
Shakti,
I am assuming the green fruit not being ripe reference was that he was too old for her or maybe that she is too young to date anyway! There are plenty of other things she can be doing!
Shani,
I agree with you- she will surely fall in love now! I know- it happened to me! I was 16 and dating a loser that my father despised. As soon as he told me I ahd to stop seeing in I fell in "LOVE". I look back and think I had lost my mind!
Having said that, Hussein, you are right. He probably knows that kid isn't up to any good! And if the others are right that he is no good then it takes one to recognize one! That doesn't mean he should throw his daughter to the wolves though!
My questions then become:
1) will having daughters make Howard and men like him stop treating other women the way he doesn't want his daughters treated?
2) what is he going to teach his son?
I give her another 3 years before she's seen on a brass pole.
@TheCruelSecretary:
My questions then become:
1) will having daughters make Howard and men like him stop treating other women the way he doesn’t want his daughters treated? NO.
2) what is he going to teach his son? Probably, the same double-standard lessons most fathers teach their sons…unfortunately.
All dads threaten to kill boyfriends at some point. If yours hasn't then you aren't doing something right. LOL.
What he does as an adult is waaaay different from what she does as a child. We're all hypocrites then. I mean, don't we all do things as adults that children shouldn't do?*
*I didn't read the entire thread…in case someone else has made the same argument.
BMD–I feel where you're coming from, but Howard is a father, whose behaviors and attitudes about women become absorbed–rightly or wrongly–by his children. So, if he's treating women how he doesn't want his daughter treated, then he bears the responsibility to change that behavior as the primary male figure in his children's lives.
See, all this is why I *don't* have children and am running down my bio-clock to the first hot flash.
he sounds like a father…
this is his daughter… this is what fathers tell their daughters…
he is scared shitless and he should be..
it's only natural…
i am an only daughter..
my father got it so that i wouldn't even dare rebel…
i would be writing this from the grave if i had tried that shit…
i was under his roof and is word was law…
you may laugh but the kids today are a bunch of little bastards who need proper parenting…
I feel you re the responsibility, but life usually has other plans: reality. No one's parents are perfect. If we waited around for perfection the human race would die out. Now, y'all know I love me some Terrance "Wipe Me Down" Howard so I may be a little bias in my argument in his favor.
"…kids today are a bunch of little bastards.."
Phrase of the day!
I bet he has her stacked on baby wipes.
I just think he is being a father. He is old school with it. Nothing wrong with that as many of our little girls have no father around and to many of them fall for the first boy that looks their way.
@ Chic Noir - "I bet he has her stacked on baby wipes."
hah! you are sick! lol
@BMD: I don't think asking a parent to be accountable and more responsible is asking a parent to be perfect.
Sounds like he's trying to sound like Cliff Huxtable.
shrug
Haven't yet read the responses but hell, at least he is parenting and not finding out his kid is pregnant on E….
Heaven is the trashiest name ever. Oops. Second trashiest after Nevaeh.
@J, if Cliff Huxtable was on acid perhaps.
yawn. attention whoring.
Hey it's better than naming your kid after a Ring Wraith like that Aryan from Aryan Radio did.
I think that was cool what he said for that interview. And probably the result of much thought. Shipping his daughter off might backfire though and not every paranoid father can try such extremes. For those other comments regarding his character, he knows the Word… yet he smokes and finds that to be a barrier between a holy and unholy life. I heard him say this on an interview on NPR, although now I'm surprised to discover he has kids, and why the interviewer didn't ask about them. Here's the link: http://www.npr.org/templates/s.....d=10320391
I always found that it was the kids that had super strict parents in college that acted a damn fool.
What's really going to happen is that he's going to take his daughter to some other country and she'll fall for some foreigner. When a child is ready to grown up things, they will do them regardless of the restrictions a parent places on them. It's better to teach the child fundamental values.
I love the way you come out in all your movies, and as well i would do the same for the well being of my kids..love you and take care.
