The Black Actress Bond

gabreg.jpg

I love how a certain set of black actresses, including Gabrielle Union, Regina Hall, Sanaa Lathan and Essence Atkins, always roll to events together and look so close knit in all their photos. Most of them showed up to Lucky Magazine's Foley + Corinna event last night.

It's nice to see black women who could be competing against each other and hating become good friends instead. They probably bond over their inability to find any good roles. More pics afer the jump.

Lauren, I love you, I really do, but enough with the negativity about black actresses not being given roles. I'm young, black and female and trying to make this acting thing a reality. The business is tough for sisters but I'm labouring under a work and be rewarded attitude at the moment. Pointing out the downsides is no help.
Let's just celebrate the solidarity of these beautiful actresses. Sniping not necessary.

Yappay are you on the east or west coast? You in LA? Just curious.

Yappay, I am a big movie fan, if you couldn't tell by all the movie posts I do on this blog! When I bring up the race issues in Hollywood, it's not to be negative or snipe or discourage black women from becoming actresses, it's to highlight a historical problem that I would like to see changed. I desperately want to see more black actresses like you succeed, and I probably won't stop bringing it up on occasion. Please understand it doesn't come from a negative place!

I don't like Sanaa's bangs. If the wrinkles are coming in, get some botox. That ish is not cute.

I saw the pictures of Nia and Gabrielle out a few weeks ago. They both were glowing and looked so happy. I either need body polish or better friends because I surely do not glow like that or laugh like that with these heifers that disappear until their man leaves them.

Dear Lauren,

I understand you're not doing it to be negative, just as much as I understand the historical problem. It still smarts though.

Maybe I just take it all to heart because the issue is so close to home.

I'll try not to be so sensitive.

Maybe one day a movie I am in, will be featured on this very site.

Signed,

Yappay

Well then. It's nice to know more about you, my dear. :-) How appropriate is it that the person who was just pushing my buttons a couple of days ago is an actress? ;-) That's the story of my life, Yappay! On the real, I wish you the best of luck with your move to the states and in the business. It can be hard for us in front of and behind the camera, but you sound very level headed so I'm sure you'll do well. Cheers!!
