Will Smith is America's Sweetheart, the actor "we can believe in," even if he gets on people's nerves sometimes. That's probably why Barack Obama said he would want the erstwhile Fresh Prince to play him in a movie. Of course, the Obama-supporting Smith told Stephen Colbert he was waiting for him to "finish writing the story" first. Get it? Anyway, with Will Smith getting top billing, I took it upon myself to cast the rest of the Election '08 story, which I can totally see actually getting made at some point in the near-ish future. Let me know your casting choices in the comments.
BARACK OBAMA It seems natural to choose a guy that probably has aspirations of U.S.-domination himself. Plus, Obama approves. If Will Smith's unavailable, I'd try to snatch up Chiwetel Ejiofor or Harry Lennix.
MICHELLE OBAMA Angela Bassett has a strong (but not angry!) black woman vibe about her, and, like Michelle Obama, she's got the guns to prove it. Right look, right Ivy League training, right acting ability.
HILLARY CLINTON I took exceptions to late-in-the-race comparisons of Glenn Close in Fatal Attraction and Hillary Clinton. That role aside, Glenn Close has attributes — similar to those of Angela Bassett — that make her perfect for the Hillary Clinton role. She could play the sort of person that people either hate with a fiery passion or love with a rabid devotion.
BILL CLINTON Richard Gere has played a ruthless woman-magnet or two in his day. Also, white hair and the capacity to affect, with the addition of a Southern accent, an arrogant and intelligent down-homeyness.
I thought you were right on abut everyone EXCEPT ANGELA BASSETT as Michelle. Since Will would be playing Obama, Angela looks much older than him and would throw off the look.
I think Kimberly Elise would be great as Michelle. Kimberly's stature, beauty and of course acting skills is a great match with Will.
just my 2 cents! LOL
I think you are right on with this!!! I especially think Joan Allen as Cindy McCain is just right!
Ellen Barkin as Cindy McCain.
I think you need a reverend to play Rev Wright. They're… extra. No resemblance, but TD Jakes seems to have dabbled in acting.
Meh. Don't know about Will though.
I think Harry Lennix would make for a convincing Barack
Daria Ellen Barkin should play Hillary. Ellen has spunk and a toughness about her. Glen comes off a bit soft to me.
Alfre Woodard would kill it as Oprah
Very ironic Lazarus, considering he is a Clinton supporter. lol
I say Jill Marie Jones (Toni from Girlfriends) as Michelle Obama because Angela would be too old by the time we would make the movie
Kerry Washington would also be a great Michelle Obama
Ugh @ Will Smith playing EVERY Black man. *smh*
How bout Conan OBrien (since whitefolk love to cast unlikely whitefolk as Black people.) SMH
I would like Dwayne "Rock" Johnson to play him. They really have the same exact voice tone, charisma and positive mannerisms. Dwayne is trying to get more serious roles, so this could be the perfect role for him.
OMG this casting would be hilariously perfect! I totally see Hillary as Glen close. Richard Gere is much better looking than Bill but I could believe him being an adulterer. I love angela but I'm thinking someone like Teresa Randal, would look more like Michelle, but Angela would give an amazing performance. Yeah, Will would be perfect as Obama.
They're all spot on except I'll put Regina King for Michelle Obama and like Lazaraz, I'll go for Harry Lennix for Barack Obama. Will Smith may bring the box office power but Lennix will bring the character alive.
