I don't think this is a mistake. This is a Rovian move. The Republicans know that most Americans are idiots and that even hearing that John McCain won will lead them to believe that he did.

Also if a few media ourlets pick this up and people just see the headline that McCain wins but don't listen or read any further then they too will have that seed planted.
