The Dems Pull No Punches In Last Night's Debate

debate.jpg

First of all, was Myrtle Beach serious with this Mount Rushmore/sand castle hybrid in honor of last night's presidential debate? I'm so mad at Obama's eyebrows. Actually, his entire face.

But back to the second-to-last debate of the primary season debate. Who watched last night? It was…intense, to say the least. Depending on what pundit you were listening to, the Hillary & John vs. Barack atmosphere made Obama look like the candidate to beat and/or cast him in a negative light, and the sniping between Clinton and Obama was detrimental to both the party and the candidates or par for the course at this stage of the election. Poor John Edwards, even though he acted as the voice of reason during the infighting, was cast as the less important step-brother. Oh, the plight of the white male!

P.S. Dave Chappelle was there.

I saw it. The petty arguing btw Hillary and Obama is not called for and it makes them both look bad. I was, however, very happy to see John Edward take Obama to task for his present votes. Edwards basically said that Obama had been using arguments against him and Hillary that he said were "unfair" and "divisive" when applied to him. Also the low blow re Walmart was shady. Hillary replied about Rezco and then she gets booed? So Obama can be petty and low, but she can't defend herself. So fucking lame. The debate was lame. I think Obama looked really bad. It exposed him for being coddled. The moment he takes a hit - it's racism or unfair. I mean, if he can't stand the heat…

John Edwards came out best. He was mature, stayed on point and didn't look like a child fighting over a toy…which is more than I can say about Hillary and Obama. Neither one looked fit to be President last night.

Hillary was rightly booed because she claimed Obama didn't take responsibility for his votes.

Edwards was clearly exasparated at being ignored, but he still handled himself well. I laughed at Hillary and Obama's bickering because they clearly hate each other and they don't even try to hide it.

I don't watch the dems debate anymore. It's like watching the view. It's always the same ol shit and makes them ALL look bad.

John Edwards is too f-ing preachy for my liking. I don't like some of his issue positions but the reason I dislike him as a person and a politician is the preachy, Joe Everyman B.S. I also dislike that he spends more time attacking the other two dems than he does on telling us why we should vote for him (cuz the other two are unfit line is not enough) or attacking the GOP. What idiots. ALL the Republicans take their debate time to trash at least one dem. First it was like a Hillary roast but now that Obama is possibly ahead, they've started focusing on him.

I disagree Daria. Edwards spends an ample amount of time talking about his plans. You're right though…he does attack alot. Last night Hillary did try to talk about George Bush and his mistakes, but she kept getting pulled into drama. I was embarrassed by Obama and Hillary last night.

Obama doesn't take responsibility for his votes. What politician does? I also think a very important thing to note is when they all started talking about taking money from lobbyists, Obama said "look, none of our hands are clean." That's soooo laughable. This from a man who is always talking about how above board he has always been? If all of yours hands are dirty, then how in the fuck are you gonna give another politician grief about who they take money from?? You can't have your cake and eat it too as soon as someone catches you being slick.

Also..when Hillary said it's hard to debate Obama b/c he never takes responsibility for his votes, I agreed with her. When you catch him on something he says, "no, you're not being factual" but 9/10 he doesn't say why? Denying something doesn't make it not true! LMAO. Hillary should have said, it's hard debating you Barack b/c any charges leveled against you you immediately scream divisiveness or "politics as usual". How do you debate someone like that? If he can't handle Hillary or John's "attacks" how the fuck is he gonna handle the right-wing machine?

I was thinking that Harold Ford Jr. and them had an emergency conference call last week but apparently not.

The right-wing attack machine specializes in smear ads and mailings. They are pretty good with debates. I was hoping Giuliani would win the republican nomination but that sure as hell isn't happening.

LOL. Giuliani is going to go down as the biggest flop EVER. He's probably not going to win Florida after putting all his eggs in that basket. Honestly, I'm surprised at what a blunder of a campaign he's run.

NOT THE CASE. She was booed because the Obamamites didn't like it that Obama got OWNED out on his involvemnt with Rezko. http://abcnews.go.com/Blotter/.....amp;page=1

I know this may upset some people here, but I TRULY BELIEVE that Barack Obama is not experienced enough or qualifed to become president YET. He should have pulled time in the senate a few more years, maybe even do a run for Governor of Illinois after his first term as Senator - THEN after 4 more years, go for the presidency. He looked like an inexperienced hack.

These people have put in the time in federal office to know what the heck to do. They've made mistakes, and yes they've own up to it and people move on.

But as people, are we THAT desperate for a hero that we crown whoever talks that fake southern accented basic Civil Rights talk, and not care to find out the background on him? Are we that simple of a people? I hope not.

He attacked Hillary first, whining about Papa Dawg Clinton, first of all, address that through the press, not in a debate when the question hasn't even been raised. And what you think the Hillary was going to do after you hit beloe the belt, stand there and not expect her to defend her position? She was on FIRE last night. She was fine until he cornered her, then the lioness came out and shredded his aura of "saintliness, can't do no wrong" image. So Hillary and Edwards as well as any politician must be held accountable for their political ties, their past votes, their action or inaction on certain issues - and Obama can't?

The thing on the credit card "no cap" vote that Edwards OWNED HIS BEHIND on: Obama "thought" he was voting "no" to freeze the interest at no more than 30% because he thought it was too high, but what he actually voted for means that banks, credit cards, payday advance places can charge anywher FROM 30%-100% INTEREST!! That's when Edwards & Clinton just took him out for the count. He looked like a 3rd grader trying to explain why he forgot to do his homework.

Not only that, how can Obama stand there and TRY to fake his way out when it's all on public record? It was embarassing to watch him. When it came to defending his actions, defending his presidential plan, he fell apart. He flubbled every line - and then tried to flip it back to "Hope" and "Change!"

Then his "present" votes. Obama, take a stand for you vote and defend it like a man! How can you say you voted "present" on issues that you didn't think were pertinent to the constiuency YET - look at how we are paying 3+ dollars for gas, food & groceries are up the roof and heating costs is no joke. Now thatnks to you, banks have the right to charge 30-100% interest. Not to mention medical insurance costs. Being that you don't READ what the law you are voting for is, you vote neutrally on things to be the nice negro at the Capital building - I can't afford that.

I can't afford to waste my vote on a candidate that is more interested in making the history books than actually doing the homework it takes to become president, EVEN if he is black.

If Obama can't stand the heat, get out of the kitchen, because my Mama's rice and beans are running out!

Why the hell are people looking for a hero in a politician? How the phuck do you think they got to where they are? You have to step on a lot of people to succeed in politics. I don't even want a nice Joe Everyman/Hero or whatever in the White House. Do the job and do it well. I also don't think one can be a successful or effective president as well as an all-around good person. Look at Jimmy Carter. Nice guy. Builds po people houses. Wants everyone in the mid-East to get along. Even all the presidents who have been made into great fantastic people had their shady side. It comes with the job and it's certainly a part of getting there. There's a lot of scratching other people's backs and compromising your values.

…and no, I don't think Obama falls into Carter territory. The fact that people think that's a desirable trait and have made him out to be a saint of some sort is just silly.

As for voting records, if you don't answer for it, the NYT and them WILL blow it up. Sure, you're going to lose a vote or two from people who are looking for Jesus v. 2.

Mama's Rice and Beans - break it down, homie!

Re the credit card fiasco, Obama even confused me. I was like WTF? Did he mean to vote yes or no? Are APRs capped at 30% or not? LOL. That's why I didn't mention it. I'm sure the fact that ppl (ok, maybe just me) didn't get it worked to his advantage.

tothemax - Hillary was rightly booed and it was amusing seeing her reactions. It's also laughable the whole idea of Clinton/Obama on the same ticket. As it is I think it's inevitable Clinton will be leading the ticket but she's sullied herself so much she'll be ripe for the picking by the Repubs. How fun.

I didn't watch the debates, because living in South Carolina, we have talked about nothing but politics here for so long that I feel like I am going crazy!!!! I think that right now we are seeing what exactly is wrong with our political system. Obama is winning because he is catering to the college students and courting mass appeal (hey I just thought of that song by Gang Star by that same title–that is a flash back!!!l) anyway this race has turned into nothing but a popularity contest and not one based on the issues. Chris Tucker and Kerry Washington are in town today stumping for Obama. I am attending this AKA function on Friday–which is supposed to be the regular get dressed up and dance to a band type function. Now I hear that both HIllary and Barack are going to be there. Are they going to dance? Is Michelle an AKA? I don't even know, I just know that I cannot stand to be begged for my vote one more time!! I just want to vote already!

If Obama would have done his homework as it is expected for senators to do (and he's a lawyer?), what she SHOULD OF DONE had he done his research, he should have voted "YES" on thhe bill, which would limit predatory lending, meaning banks could legally charge you was NO MORE than 30%.

Being that Dumbama voted "NO", he made it so that banks could charge not just up to 30%, but up to 100% of any loan, big or small.

Example: You borrow $100,000 from a bank for a mortgage. That means that banks can now charge you a no-cap interest, meaning you can be charged up to 100% interest AND also pay the $100,000 = $200,000.

Had this overconfident brother done his HOMEWORK, he would have save the constituents that pay his salary predatory lenders usurping from needy folks. So because he didn't pay attention, this is now legal.

-AND THEN, the worst is that he tried to play dumb, like really? That's what it was?

-AND all this happened last night on national TV!

I'm disgusted by his hubris and STILL have the gall to consider himself qualified to become president.

Voting present isn't necessarily a way to dodge a vote. That's a politician's way of suggesting that you rework that bill.

Hillary's looking like shit and you can smell the desperation in her campaign. Go to her campaign website & you will find that she referenced 2 of Obama's grammar school essays to suggest that he's been inconsistent with his desires to be president. Pathetic. And LOL at her bringing up Rezco when Whitewater was one hell of a scandal. Was there any suicide related to Rezco as there was with Whitewater? Hillary's former campaign head race-baited the drug dealing references & that's how race baiting started.

And how is it that bringing up Walmart's a low blow when she got her Bob Johnson to slyly take jabs at Obama over his drug use? Didn't Bill Clinton use drugs? And the ridiculous media twisting of how Obama said that MLK signed the Civil Rights Act was highly unnecessary. She trivialized the role of MLK, Rosa Parks, Medgar Evers, & countless others. LBJ signed the act but who did the legwork? Who are the martyrs?

Is Hillary gonna introduce another convoluted healthcare plan that even politicians fail to understand? How do you create a healthcare plan without seeking the POV of the American ppl? She had a chance to stand up against this war but she lambasted Bush for not allocating enough funds towards it. She was the last Democrats in support with her hawkish ass.

Billary's not getting my vote. When need something new. Since I was born ('81), it's been Bush (Reagan), Bush (Reagan), Bush, Clinton, Clinton, Bush, and Bush. Fuck a political dynasty. Especially a shitty one.

I think Edwards is the best candidate but he's being ignored.

Mama - Yes, the playing dumb part had me second guessing myself. LOL. In our house - I don't pay the bills nor am I allowed to hold the credit or atm cards for more than 45 seconds so any talk about APRs, percentages, money, mortgage is Chinese to me.

He makes it. I spend it. :-)

I see that some of you do not agree with Barak Obama's views, and you have every right to do so. I however do not agree with the tactics you use in referring to Obama as "Dumbaba" or his supporters as "Obamaites." You say that he is inexperienced and crazy to think that he is intelligent enough to run as prez, but what I view on this board is nothing of the sort. People claim that they were acting like children, yet what are you doing on this board, referring to these individuals with childish names. Practice what you preach.

Hillary handed Obama his ass last night. She went after him right out of the gate, and kept the heat hot. The booing she got did'nt surprise me one bit, as Obama had the predominently black crowd in his back pocket. I'm glad she called him out on his double speak, and shady voting record. So sick of his phoney platitudes, and naive dreams. I also found it telling that Edwards went after him as well. He's clearly hedging his bets on whoever the eventual nominee is.

In the end, I think Edwards probably came off the best though.

Btw, i'm so sick of people thinking Barack needs to be treated with kid gloves, as if he's a fucking messiah. He's not. If he wants to be President he better learn how to take the heat, because once the republicans get a hold of him….

Who called him “Dumbaba”?? I didn't. I'm the one who said they were acting like children, but I didn't call anyone names, but even if I did…Hillary is referred to as "Billary" and people who support Hillary have been called "evil" and "liars" and "hypocrites" on this blog. Is that not childish?? Does that foster dialogue? The fact is we all come here and say shit that's over the top and stupid sometimes. Period. Don't make it out to be just the folks coming here who support Hillary b/c we all know that's not true. You need to come here and read up a little more often before you tell us to practice what we preach, homegirl.

Posted: Jan 23, 2008 at 1:07 pm
No. 24 · blackmistressdiva

This is why we can't have that dialogue that Atalanta referred to. Everything immediately becomes personal. Who cares if Obama and Hillary are called names?? I'm sure they could care less. It's when people come here and get preachy or start catching feelings (I am guilty of that one) over their candidate that we inevitably call eachother names and it all goes down the toilet.

I mean, does anyone REALLY care that they are referred to as Obamamites? I don't care that I am referred to as a Clintonite (I call myself that actually) or a HillStar.
