You know when television's premiere awards show has to resort to bringing out Kanye West, who was completely irrelevant to the proceedings, you know the show's producers are feeling like the ceremony has gotten kind of boring and out of touch over the last few years. But it's not the actual show that makes the awards a joke, it's the nominees and the eventual winners.
When The Wire's not even nominated, Jaime Pressly wins a best supporting actress award over the brilliant Vanessa Williams or Jenna Fischer from The Office and James Spader from Boston Legal wins best actor over, well, anyone (but particularly James Gandolfini), I have a hard time respecting the importance and meaning of an Emmy statue. Nevertheless, congrats to the winners — especially 30 Rock — whether they deserved their awards or not. More pics and a list of winners after the jump.

I didn't watch the Emmys for the simple fact that The Wire wasn't even friggin' nominated. That really is outrageous. It's easily the best show on television. The James Spader thing….I actually like him and Boston Legal is hilarious to me.
Q: Name an awards show that isn't popmpous, ass-kicking to the (mostly) the least deserved 'artist', full of flat-footed in jokes and smugness and preceded by a so-so fashion show.
(I do think Jamie Pressley was deserving of her award - more so than Fischer, although probably less so than Vannessa Williams).
A: The Razzies?
I watched the show, but for obvious reasons - ppl I know have worked on a lot of those shows, but overall I was disappointed in it b/c few of the ppl I wanted to win actually did. I thought the thing with Kanye was pretty awesome actually. He looked all shy and for the FIRST time ever…I thought he was cute.
James Spader winning over James Gandolfini (or even Hugh Laurie) is bullshit plain and simple. The academy wanted to screw The Sorpranos and by extension HBO. It was great that they won best drama, but that was a no brainer. However to watch the great David Chase begin to get "serenaded" by the music was embarrassing and unfitting of such an awesome producer. Michael Imperioli is hot!! Yea, I just wanted to say that one final time about lil' Chrissy. Ha!
I'm a huge Sally Field fan b/c when I was like 6 or 7 years old all I did was watch reruns of Gidget so she just reminds me of that whenever I hear her voice. She's the cutest person ever so I can't be upset at the win.
Tina Fey (or at least Julia Louis Dreyfus) not winning made me yell at my cat. I was very pissed. What's up with that? I'm glad 30 Rock won for best comedy though, but again…no brainer in my opinion.
I was happy for Terry O'Quinn - I've worked with him before and he's thoughtful, funny and really nice to the crew. Long over due for recognition. So I can't be mad at that.
I was hoping Bury My Heart At Wounded Knee would take home more, but it was competing against so much quality stuff. That was a great MFTV.
I was mad about Sally Field
I love Jamie Pressely. She's a North Carolina girl like me. I also love Jeremy Piven. Don't know why…Just do.
I just want to know why Katherine Heigl won. She is not better than Sandra Oh and she is DEFINATELY not better that Chandra Wilson. I guess that award was for getting Isaiah fired. And I was very happy America Ferrera won. She's so talented and cute.
Overall, the show was kinda lame. I guess I'm still pissed that Christopher Meloni (L&O: SVU) wasn't nominated.
p.s. I'm with you, BMD. Michael Imperioli is hot!
