The Grammys. Nine times out of ten, one of the major category award winners leaves me scratching my head — as in Herbie Hancock's Album of the Year win over Kanye and Amy Winehouse, but whatever. They still won big, those two. And as for the Grammys, at least a few of the performances are usually pretty good. Beyonce and Tina! Loved it, and not just because I'm biased. It was really good, and Tina Turner's energy was endlessly impressive. Kanye's tribute to his mother was a tearjerker — I think I saw Carrie Underwood looking a little misty-eyed in the audience — and the aforementioned Morris Day/Rihanna collaboration entertaining. There were a lot of other good performances, but those were the standouts to me. Oh, and Amy Winehouse's satellite performance from London? She wasn't all there, in more ways than one.
After the jump, more pictures and a list of winners.

The Best Performaces by far were: 1) Tina Turner & Beyonce, 2) Kanye West's dedication to his mother and 3) Amy Winehouse (her reaction when she found out she won a grammy was priceless).
The tina & beyounce performance was ok. Tina still got it!. But those outfits bey wore made her look fat, that weave was hideous and that make up was draggish.
Kanye's performance was ehhh..i was touched by his dedication to his mom til he started yakkin too long and his arrogance came out.
Rhi Rhi performing with the time was ok.
I dont see the big deal with amy whinehouse..her performance was just as weird as her look.
The gospel performance was my favorite. They took that audience to church!
I haven't seen the whole show yet. I recorded it so that I can blow past the commercials and the boring parts. The performances I saw were great. Cirque Du Soleil, Kanye, Tina/Beyonce, The Time & Rihanna, all were sick and fun!!
I would have preferred for Tina Turner to perform by herself. Haven't seen her perform in a while. I didn't want to see Bey or anyone else up there.
Congrats to Kanye, Rihanna, Chaka Kahn and Michael Buble. My love for Amy has just gone away in the past few months.
Gorgeous Black Women
Oh, Rihanna's performance, the dancing specifically, was waaaay off. I've seen her perform repeatedly and while she doesn't have Whitney's voice, she is an amazing performer. In the first 30 secs, it looked like maybe she didn't have enough practice but after that, it just seemed like she was maybe in pain and nursing an injury.
I liked Bey's intro for Tina Turner. Haven't seen Kanye's performance. I'm sure it was fab but the clips aren't posted yet.
Gorgeous Black Women
What was Solange doing there??and sitting up in the front row, come on. Beyonce needs to retire for five years. Her dad is selling her short.
Her sister's famous. I understand that. Why she is wearing that dress is a question I'd like to get answered. Don't care for Bey's dress either, but WTF @ Solange.
Gorgeous Black Women
Rihanna is NOT an amazing performer by any sane standard. She's beautiful, and that's really it. She has ZERO charisma and stage presense, and can't dance to save her life.
The Time were out of time and embarrasing.
Beyonce on the other hand is an amazing performer, and is a true heir of Tina.
I was not feeling Tina in the silver lame, but the old girl still has it. You could tell she was over it though, or perhaps she was worried she might break a hip.
Kanye is such a douchebag, and that embarrasing "tribute" to his mom was tacky as hell. Loved his jacket though.
Amy gave a decent performance for someone still in rehab, but her acceptance speech was the best ever. I was hoping she would take album of the year, but congrats to Herbie Hancock….I guess.
Btw, Alicia Keys needs to go far far away, for a long long time.
How could Herbie Hancock winning album of the year leave you scratching your head? The man's a legend and he's been making great music for the past 50-some odd years. Not to mention he put out a great album 'Ye and Amy Winehouse are all right and everything but come on.
"Kanye is such a douchebag, and that embarrasing “tribute” to his mom was tacky as hell. Loved his jacket though."
solitaire, dude, you always make me chuckle - "douchebag" is one of my favorite words. i try to use it at least once a day.
Oh…re the show. I totally forgot it was on. LOL. Didn't tivo or anything. Was catching up on my back eps of the Wire. Guess I'll have to youtube all the performances.
I'm feeling Fantasia's hair color. Yea…it's kinda 1992 ghetto-business, but least it's different.
Solitaire, people who've seen her perform seem to think otherwise.
Also re: Kanye, I haven't watched the performance but I'm told it was "Hey Mama" so I don't really see how it could be tacky.
bmd, no. Fantasia seems to be stuck in an awkward adolescent stage. The braces. The ill-advised hair. The clothing choices. We all made bad decisions at 15, but wtf?!
Gorgeous Black Women
Hey..if dudes can bring back the flat top, then Fanny can bring this ish back.
But you're right, Daria, the braces are a no-no.
Just saw the clip of Tina and Bey. They were so cute. Bey is basically the next Tina, hell, they looked like they could be related.
I'm surprised nobody mentioned that Beyonce stepped on Tina's foot. Did you notice near the end she was hopping around a bit? I was struck by the genuine reaction of Amy Winehouse winning the award for song. It was classic and something not seen often enough on award shows. Most peeps act like they knew they were going to win, and hardly show any real emotion.
I saw that, but wasn't sure what happened.
Daria,I actually have seen Rihanna live, so I feel confident in the knowledge that she sucks ass. To each his own I guess.
The flattop is NOT back. I rebuke it!
Gorgeous Black Women
@ deevine Tina was kinda pissed too! Kanye's tribute to his mom was nice but his acceptance speech is what was "douchey". While yes, you are a star and yes, your fans and friends share in your grief, don't expect the world, especially the music biz, to really care about your mom passing. It was almost as if he expected to get more time… @ daria and BMD, He even told them to cut the music, so to speak. Fantasia looks like Pepe LePuew. It looks like she told her stylist - 'I want what Kelis had last year, but…'hood it up.'
Well, unfortunately, I didn't add it to DVR until 9ish so I think I missed it.
Gorgeous Black Women
Rihanna and my man Morris Day—ugh, double ugh! Who thought that "mama say mama sah, mamacoosah" from MJ's Thriller album made sense as a lead-in to any song by the Time? Rihanna bores me, aside from the Kelis-copycat style, that is. I want to like her but she disappoints me. I love Herbie Hancock but the Grammys did what they do at the Oscars all the time–give an award to someone who's inarguably fab but who didn't necessarily knock the competition out the water this time. It's the "honor the elders" award, imho.
ya beyonce stepped on tina's foot to show her who was the real queen, what a bitch. tina is in her 60s and got beat down by her husband, while beyonce gets fat on cash.Tina is screaming at the end of that song, and takes off her shoe as she hops around.
solarium or whatever u call beyonce's sister, looks like a poodle.
Fantasma the idol winner that has produced nothing but heaps of shit, is trying out her hoodrat, ghetto used up chicken head mamma look.
Kanyon is nothing but a non confident D bag. this is why he comes across as an asshole. notice how he gives the same expression all the damn time…reminds me of Marah's only one side picture look that makes her look wetarded.
Willfukme looks like a stupid idiot trying to produce the 'pensive' look. did you see the gap ad "thinker" in it? fukin idiots at gap marketing.
Taccara looks like a tranny in all that shadowing of her face.
Rihanna rox.
Fergie is a man!
