I'm not even going to lie…
I wake up on Saturday mornings and tune into ABC so I can watch 'That's So Raven'.
Will I admit that to another person? Hell no. I've never seen any of you in person so I don't feel strange telling you my guilty pleasures.
No love for The Wire? Not even black people want to recognize that show's genius. Sad.
Dule Hill is very talented.
NAACP Awards? BET Awards? Soul Train Awards? (and the list goes on and on)….. Why so many "black" awards? I'm black. I feel that most "black movies" (whatever the hell that means) suck! Why don't they all just strive to win an oscar? It's like they only nominate actors becuz they participated in a "black-related" production and not becuz they can actually act.
I've read on imdb.com, that Angelina Jolie has Native American ancestry, According to imdb.com,"She is of Czech and American descent on her father's side and French-Canadian and Haudenosaunee (Iroquian Indian) heritage on her mother's side." So maybe her Native American ancestry is being used for her being nominated.
You're going to have to accept the fact that people like Angelina and that she's talented, especially if you don't bother to preview the work you've spent so much criticizing.
@ ike, oscars, golden globes, emmy's, grammy's, billboard, cma's, vma's, amas, tony's, sag awards, people's choice (and the list goes on and on)…. Why so many "white" awards? eh, it's the end of the day. i won't even continue. :-/
Hmm, so the rule is that when other people enjoy the work of someone you don't like you should just shut up, accept it, and reserve all comments? Sorry, but I'm certainly not the only one — in this small Stereohyped community or the world at large — who chooses not to live by that rule. And I don't need to see the film or the acting job Angelina did to disagree, on principle, with her NAACP Image Award nomination.
I'm with Lauren on this - I'm not down with her nomination at all. I like her and understand the SPIRIT behind it perhaps, but being part Indian as quailification is a stretch - isn't it? I'm not talking ish about it, I mean, I've benefited from some things in my ethnic background, too, but damn. Seems like the NAACP is trying to commericalize that award or get more ratings???
I agree with Lauren about Angelina's nomination, and I love Angelina.
The NAACP image awards have always been a joke imo. They celebrate the worst in black art, just because it's black art. If this was 1923, I could get behind them more, but they are living in a timecapsule (like Ebony magazine).
They can't seriously think Angelina is actually planning to show up to this thing.
What if she shows up with Baby Z. Oh…one can only wish!
@ los: I wouldn't call all of those awards "white" (like the emmy, oscar, grammy, VMAs, golden globes). They're actually more universal. And even so, the other awards recognize "high selling" artists in general.
Just to add:
Yeah she may have played a "mixed" character in A Mighty Heart, but we all know Angelina was nominated becuz she adopted an African baby. I mean c'mon….. having a blk baby gives her MAJOR "black credit."
I don't remember the details, but haven't non-black people been nominated/won Image Awards before? Latinos, and others? USA Today's article said "The Image Awards honor those who promote diversity in the arts." Did they leave out "black people only" somewhere?
How exactly does it fit that description then? "promote diversity in the arts"…because the character is of mixed race? Or is Angelina being honored because she is an artist and has a diverse family? Maybe they should honor Heidi Klum too then…
Why criticize angelina for playing a black women, when i doubt you would ever criticize a black actor for playing a white person. If we wish to move ahead as a people we must critize our own people and not only other races
THE NAACP HAS LOST IT!!! NOMINATING A WHITE WOMAN
IN BLACK FACE AND A NAPPY WIG, ADOPTS A BLACK CHILD, THIS WOMAN IS A SHAME AND EMBRASSMENT, COME ON PEOPLE DON'T STAND BY AND LET A BUNCH OF STUPID BEHIND KISSING BLACKS DO THIS, THEY NEED TO RESIGN THEIR POSITION AND STICK TO FIGHTING FOR THE RIGHTS OF BLACK PEOPLE LIKE THEY SUPPOSE TO SHAME, SHAME SHAME ON YOU!!!!!!!!!!!
BET image awards are a joke anyway, so why do we care? Actally BET itself is a joke to most of us anymore.
And let's look at it this way - if someone said a black actress couldn't play a non black role, we'd get pissed. So let's stop inventing things to get upset about to peddle our blogs and get our minutes of fame.
