VH1 isn't exactly the world's foremost authority on hip-hop, but there are a few good choices in there (mixed in with some pretty egregious ones). My all-time favorite hip-hop song is "One Love" by Nas.

"Juicy" by Notorious B.I.G. is my number 1 pick, althought I'm not a big fan of his.

pretty good list, even though they had to throw in some contemporary hits to make the kids interested. missy has no place on this list…beats maybe…but then again you can just pick the original songs she takes them from. "in da Club" is not even 50s best song…so no. "reminisce over you (T.R.O.Y)" should be on here and HELLO WHERE IS RAKIM (microphone fiend)!!!! nas' "NY state of mind" or "one love" i would even put Ghetto Boys "mind is playing tricks on me" over a couple of these. anyway…kudos on P.E. as no. 1.

The idea that "In Da Club" would be considered a better song than "I Used to Love H.E.R." and "The Bridge Is Over" pretty much invalidates this list.

You can not have a best of Hip Hop EVER list without Rakim or KRS One.

LMAO at Jason(#7) so true, amongst many other names missing.

Also Big L, Jay Z (anything from Dead Presidents),Lauryn Hill or the Fugees for that matter. VHI keeps trying, and they always make sure Eminem is on their list somewhere…lol…surprise surprise.

Oh yes, Salt & Pepa…Good Call Daria…
Das Efx, Black Sheep, Common,Summertime by Will Smith is a must, A good Day by Ice Cube, Lost Boyz, and OUTKAST! Whoah!

HOW IS OUTKAST NOT ON HERE?!?
HOW IS MC LYTE NOT ON HERE?!?

The Roots so many artists come to mind that some of these songs/artists couldn't light a torch to. But i will say a good portion of the list is much better than what i have seen in the past from VH1.

I'm 25 and even I know that no list of the best 100 songs in hip-hop should exclude Planet Rock by Afrika Bambaataa. Hell its a shame that its not in the top 20.

Next time they should go to the street and ask which songs r the best there's no Big Daddy Kane or KRS1 included you can tell some nobodies made this list.
