What Are The Chances

Wherein you, the readers, talk amongst yourselves.

With disastrous quote after disastrous quote coming from the lips of Sarah Palin, the Vice-Presidential Debate coming up, John McCain's plummet in the polls, and conservatives calling for Palin to step down, what are the odds that John McCain boots her from his campaign?

Not gonna happen, he's a "Maverick"!
Someone from MG's blog suggested that McCain is trying to "fail on purpose for the GOPers" so that they can say "see you need us" in four years.
Hmmmm, maybe….

Would make for great drama (which he seems prone to these days), but extremely unlikely to happen.

It's not likely to happen. McCain has done a good enough job of screwing up his own campaign. He didn't need Palin for that.

Hard to say. There's no doubt that Palin is an albatross around the neck of the McCain campaign, but I can't imagine that the campaign could recover from a blatant admission of such a gross error in judgment, especially given that rash decision-making is one of the faults of which McCain is most frequently accused. As I've said before (maybe on this blog, maybe elsewhere, I can't remember), it's hard to conceive of a situation in which McCain, as President, would be allowed a do-over for such an egregious decision. Take into account that his attempt to bail on the debate is still fresh in people's minds, and a move like this stands to kill a lot of people's patience with McCain, even people who've supported him up to now. The decision to keep Palin or replace her is basically one letting the campaign die a slow death, or actively putting it out of its misery. Either way, I fully believe the election to unwinnable for McCain at this point, and I can't even fathom what sort of unforeseen turn of events it would take to change this.

*le sigh* i don't think palin is going anywhere. i don't know if that's a good thing or a bad thing. there are so many idiots where i live who still just love the crap out of that woman and stick to "everyone is picking on her! she's a good lady, she has a million kids so she can take care of the country, blah blah blah."

UGH! mccain knows he will look bad if palin walks the plank.

He'll never admit he was wrong to pick her in the first place. With each speech she verifies how she is not ready to be vp let alone take the helm of a country.

What I meant was…..

The worst thing anyone can do at this point is underestimate Gov. Palin, or the Republican machinery. They have brought out all the stops on this one, including, I am sure, hypnosis.

The woman has something, I don't know what, but she has something. And since the expectations are so low, all she has to do is successfully convey her thoughts. THAT IS ALL SHE HAS TO DO! Just complete a sentence. And her answers are not all that important.

Anyone who plans to vote for Obama, who desires to see him in office, SHOULD NOT think that this woman is just a light weight who will make a fool of herself on Thursday.

Based on her Alaska debates, she is short on factual references, but nasty with the pointed barbs. She won't have any deep background on policy or history, but she'll try out a charm offensive to win folks over. Biden has to be real careful with this one. He can't attack her, but he can't ignore her either.

Frankly, she's been so bad, so far that anything short of drooling and muttering will be seen as a win for her.

I am having the hardest time understanding people who watch her stupidity and still think she's qualified for the VP seat. The fact that they keep saying "She's one of us." is disturbing. Does that mean they think they could handle the job of VP too?

Palin on reading newspapers with Katie Couric:

Mrs Palin replies: "I've read most of them, again with a great appreciation for the press, for the media."

Ms Couric: What, specifically?

Mrs Palin: "Um, all of them, any of them that have been in front of me all these years."

Ms Couric: "Can you name a few?"

Mrs Palin: I have a vast variety of sources where we get our news, too. Alaska isn't a foreign country, where it's kind of suggested, 'wow, how could you keep in touch with what the rest of Washington, D.C., may be thinking when you live up there in Alaska?' Believe me, Alaska is like a microcosm of America."

From what I read about her on wikipedia, she was a journalism major in college and was a TV reporter briefly. With this said, wouldn't you think she could answer this question without even having to think about it?

He can't kick her out, but something might cause her to drop out "for her family". I see either as highly unlikely, however- there are still (though I don't freaking understand how) people who like this woman and want to see her in office.

The horse is too far out the gate at this point for McCain. He's going to have ride that filly until the end - even if kills his campaign.

what she has, Michelle, is charm and pluck. it matters not, that she is ignorant to so many relevant issues - there are many people that "just love her". sorta like Elizabeth Hasslebeck.

her interviews with Katie Couric and Charlie Gibson bluntly show that she doesn't understand half of the questions she is asked, but she is an expert bullshit artist. if she is heavily coached, it is possible that she will do okay in the debate.

as far as McCain dumping her, i don't think he would. we will just have to wait and see. This presidential election has had more dramatic twists than All My Children, Desparate Housewives, and the NFL combined.
