Wherein you, the readers, talk amongst yourselves.
It boggles the mind, but the networking site LinkedIn is valued at $1 billion. Really? I joined because everyone else seemed to have joined, but I'm not entirely sure what to do with the account now that I have it. Some people seem to love it though, which begs a question that we scratched the surface of a few days ago: Facebook, Myspace, or Linkedin. Or none? Or all? You tell me.
None. That is waaaay too much information on me floating around.
Facebook and Linked In. J, thy all have strict privacy settings. You can google me all you want. All you'll find is stuff from my alma mater and places I've volunteered at one point or another. If someone searches for me on Facebook, all they'll see is my name and they can add me as a friend. Can't even see a picture or poke me. On linked in, I believe all that people outside my network can do is add me.
@ daria,
regardless of its privacy settings, the internet is not private.
true
i make it a habit not to put anything out there that i would have to explain to my mama
linkedIn - use it to keep up with law school classmates, undergrad classmates, old co-workers etc…. some i maintain personal re'ships with, but it also gives them a spot check if they hear of gigs etc…..
ugh, im in all three and all three times i was coerced by friends who were already in and insisted i just HAD to join. peer pressure what can i say. i did meet my boyfriend of 1 1/2 years on myspace though so hey…
** i also follow the "mama rule"…
That's so weird, someone just asked me to join and frankly, I had never heard of it. My question is: do I need another website sending me useless emails?
Answer: No, not really
This is the first time I heard about Linkedin. I'm on myspace and facebook. That's enough. It had taken over a year to finally get myspace to my liking. Facebook doesn't appeal to me as much, too many applications to get sucked into; but it has helped me to find old classmates. I don't need anymore.
The owners need to unload that ish immediately because it's overvalued.
I'm on Facebook and hardly bother with it. All the people I want to know have my 'offline' details; however it's useful for keeping up to speed with old classmates,
Stumbleupon is my current favourite, though, because I'm a media whore
Daria, you are right. I guess it's me. It's more of a idiosynchratic thing (or however you spell that mess. lol) I just dont like to be found, I guess. It creeps me out to wake up one day and someone from the past is in my face talking about "Heyyyy! I was thinking about you"…) I haven't figured out what to do with that yet. lol
None of the above. My alma mater, the great North Carolina A&T State Univesity. Aggie Pride!!!!!, has it's own networking site, just for A&T Alumni. I love it! and that is all I'm getting into.
i was in college when facebook came on the scene at my school, so i use it to keep up with friends from school back home in new orleans, etc. … i use my myspace account to keep up with music artists i love…everything else is null and void.
None - if I was interested in keeping touch with people I would find a way. There are probably very good reasons why we don't speak today.
I use linkedin. I got a job from linkedin a couple of months ago.
I also use facebook and myspace as extensions of my portfolio.
Linkedin isn't over valued. It's a huge recruiting tool for ppl looking for techies and other highly skilled people, a good tool for anyone in a sales oriented position or ppl like me who are always looking to drum up work. I like it a lot.
