ColorofChange, MoveOn, and Nas Descend On Fox News

Wherein you, the readers, talk amongst yourselves.

Members of ColorofChange and Moveon.org are showing up at Fox headquarters in NYC tomorrow to hand over a petition filled with 600,000 signatures. They'll be joined by Nas, whose recent album-naming activities might muddle their message, but that's beside the point. The petition is to protest what ColorofChange says is Fox's "attempt to prey on racism and intolerance and cast the Obamas as "outsiders": an on-screen graphic referred to Mrs. Obama as "Obama's baby mama," a pundit "confused" Obama with Osama and then joked they should both be assassinated, and an anchor called a loving fist bump between Barack and Michelle a "terrorist fist jab." In February, Bill O'Reilly talked about calling a "lynching party" to deal with Michelle."

What do you make of the protest and the petition? Will things like this cause Fox News to change its very popular formula? Should it?

The only way to make entities like Fox News disappear is the loss of money and advertisers. A petition and protests will make people say "Oh people are protesting Fox News again", but will amount to nothing. Pressure their advertisers and some of the cable providers that carry FNC and then something might happen.

It won't be mentioned at all. If it is, O'Reilly will call it "an attack from the lunatics from the extreme liberal media."

I think somebody needs to be focusing more time on his career. He should be headin to the studio instead and do what Lil Wayne did…. write more songs.

Brining Nas is like bringing R. Kelly to protest the inhumane treatment of children. If you're going to protest, at least dont choose a leader who is easily marginalized.

Waste of time. There are bigger, more tangible issues out there. The people who watch Fox News already think those things about the Obamas. A petition won't stop anything. Those 600,000 people need to volunteer for a good non-church related cause. That would exact more change than a petition.
