I can't pick one movie. Some faves include Out of Sight, Grease, The Sound of Music, Dirty Dancing, Ocean's 11, It Happened One Night, Wuthering Heights, and anything by Hitchcock.
@Amera, aside from the obvious reasons about its innovative use of camera and etc etc, why would you pick this movie over all others as your favorite? Genuinely curious because the amount of love that film gets has never made any sense to me.
I'm all about the oldies. Favorite film? Gigi, because it is an incredibly sweet love story, has wonderful music numbers, and always without fail, the movie makes me ridiculously happy.
City Of God, Brokeback Mountain
I fucking hate Forrest Gump. It's like it was written by 20 different people. And they were having a contest to see who can make the audience cry more. Even though it was cheezy, not touching.
Qui: I'm glad you said Match Point. I enjoyed that movie even though my friends, who are generally as brutal in their reviews as I am, hated it.
+N+: which Pride and Prejudice? I hate myself for loving the one with Keira Knightley. I don't care for her at all, but she was good for the role. There's never been a Mr. Darcy that doesn't make me swoon. Disliked him in the book but on screen, he's always come across so well. So much so that any character in a movie or TV show that makes me swoon is now referred to as Mr. Darcy. Pronounced with a British accent.
Larenz Tate (or specifically, his Lester Molester mustache) completely got in the way of my enjoyment of Love Jones. I just kept thinking how much more I'd enjoy it with a different actor or if he'd just shave.
Confession: I have rented The Wiz at least half a dozen times and Ive yet to finish it. I was not entertained. It's one of those movies you're supposed to watch and love that I never really got into. Chicago, Dirty Dancing, The Godfather, Jungle Fever, Rocky, Narnia and Harry Potter fall into the category of universally loved movies that don't interest me or keep my attention.
crooklyn, city of god, tsotsi, love jones, bebes kids, carmen jones, rosewood, coming to america, finding forrester, blazing saddles, eve's bayou, talk to me, mo betta blues, do the right thing, 4 little girls, when the levees broke
The Abyss, Armageddon, The Color Purple, 12 Angry Men, Forest Gump, Grease, Star Trek: The Wrath of Kahn, Star Wars: Return of the Jedi, The Best Man, Soul Food, Mommy Dearest, Immitation of Life.
Love Jones, Monsoon Wedding, Soul Food, Emma, My Big Fat Greek Wedding, Roman Holiday, Notebook (sappy, I know), Much Ado About Nothing, Shakespeare In Love, Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind… There are so many more, but these are my top 10.
Coming to America, Halem Nights, Last Dragon, Five Heartbeats, Moonwalker, Sparkle, Too Wong Foo, Blade, Shrek the Third, Mommy Dearest, Dreamgirls, Eve's Bayou, Friday, Player's Club,
The Lover was very good. Made me cry at the time.
Christine X was also very good. This movie is a major reason why I will never touch drugs. The scenes looked so real.
Le Color Violet!!
Citizen Kane. They don't make movies like they use to.
so many to choose from! …West Side Story, Legends of the Fall, My Fair Lady
Roysal Tenenbaums. As much as I loathe Wes Anderson, I have so many pleasant memories tied to watching it repeatedly.
Tsotsi, Dirty Pretty Things, Girl Interrupted, L'Auberge Espagnole, Amelie, Hotel Rwanda, Lion King and Gia. Tsotsi and
It's a tie between "Monsoon Wedding" and "Daughters of the Dust".
But I will admit to seeing The Matrix 17 times.
It's a toss up between
Scarface &
Forrest Gump
Tie: City of God, Match Point
Sense and Sensibility (1995)
Sticking with the classics
tie between Gone with the Wind and Breakfast at Tiffany

So many to choose from:
Claudine
Sparkle
Love Jones
The Wiz
Harlem Nights
Boomerang
Poetic Justice
Fame is my all-time fav. I wanted to be a dancer when I was younger and this film mesmerized me. I still watch it and love it.
If I had to choose a second; I'd say She's Gotta Have It. That film opened the door to a new kind of Black film.
Love Jones — all day, any day
