Tyra Seamlessly Combines Social Commentary And Top Modeling

What do you think, guys? Am I too hard on Tyra? I mean, last night on America's Next Top Model she did take great pains to bring attention a very serious issue: homelessness. Actually, she brought attention to that one time that she brought attention to homelessness on the Tyra Banks Show by taking off all her makeup, dressing in rags, and sleeping on the street. But that's close enough, right? Also on last night's show, the contestants did a photo shoot with real homeless teens, who got to dress up in fancy clothes while the contestants put on homeless costumes! At the end of the shoot the teens presumably went back to their lives at the shelter, while the wannabes continued on the road to becoming America's Next Top Model. It was all very eye-opening.

You were not too hard on Tyra cause I thought the exact same thing. What really killed me is her saying "this is a topic very close to me because I discussed it on my show a year ago". Are you serious? She had the homeless teens and a contestant who was once homeless and couldnt even give any of them some time to talk about their struggle off the streets or give their shelter a donation. And like Tyra really stayed on the streets for a whole day? More like a whole shoot! Who does she think she's fooling!!

I thought the exact SAME thing when I watched last night. I actually caught the episode at the halfway point, so I didn't know the other girls were homeless. But REALLY Tyra?! REALLY? Last year she had Marvita on TV recounting a sexual assault and how she was so hungry to be in the house because she was homeless, and this shoot hit home because of HER SHOW??

Lord, give me the strength!

I'm guessing a joke about Tyra giving the homeless kids yakki furs to keep warm during the winter would not play well here?

Ok.

My only hope is that she seeded into that organization instead of just exploiting them. Truth be told–and they know this–those homeless girls were fierce and a little part of me wonders if some of them weren't just homeless actors. But the true moral of my story is that we have no idea what Tyra did behind the scenes with the organization shameless plugging of her show aside.

to me it seems tyra is only interested in helping and promoting tyra. any time she brings up an issue it has to relate to her somehow. i don't think i've ever seen her talk about any issue without making it about her. if she really cared about homeless people she wouldn't make them props for her show.

I didn't watch this episode but the premise seems to be quite tacky and exploitive.

Tyra just doesn't get it. Walking around for a day, pretending to be homeless is not the same as being homeless. I wish she were surrounded by people who are smarter than her, cause I think her heart in in the right place, but her brain just doesn't engage.
