Remember that Vogue-King Kong controversy that ambushed the media chattering classes back in March? Anna Wintour and Annie Leibovitz were gouged by politically correct knives for repeating a racist and stereotypical image of King Kong and a lady of liberty, making cover star LeBron James look like a screaming ape next to a helpless (though smiling!) Gisele Bundchen. Now that the dust has settled, it’s time to look at how Americans at large viewed the issue. In a word, poorly.
Ugh. It's a double-edged sword. Because the cover has failed, it will cause Anna Wintour (aka: the racist BITCH) to conclude that Black people don't sell covers.
I have a feeling that the upcoming issue of Italien vogue will set records.
I know I didn't buy this issue.
lol @ this issue. pick a side.
I had a chance meeting with Andre Leon Talley (Vogue Editor at large) and got a chance to ask him about the cover. He told me he wasn't included on any of the meetings for this cover and after seeing this cover, caused much uproar (his words, not mine) with his boss.
I still think they could have addressed the obvious issues with this in the next month's issue (which they didn't).
The upcoming issue of italian vogue will probably set records for how poorly it will sell.
Well I was one of the 350K people who bought that issue and I didn't get what all the fuss was all about.
That April issue had more blacks featured than I've ever seen and not just in the world of Sports. Michelle Obama was dubbed an IT girl and Jill Scott was also a featured story.
I bought the issue for the main fact of supporting a black person on the cover of a mainstream magazine, too bad others don't feel the same way.

Why all of the hate???
Afro, I brought it too as the shape issue has good articles. Vogue often has stories on/ or interviews with many successful black women*.
Off the top of my head I can recall reading of:
1. Susan Fall Smith(blk socilaite)
2. the currator of the Brooklyn or Harlem Museam
3.an interview with a blk woman who is a cook or who owns her own frozen food company
4 An interview with an Alvin Alley dancer in last year's shape issue.
5.Art buyer for the very wealthy Kim ______.
*Most of these women are dark and natural by the way.
