Miley's pic has a faintly skeezy, post-coital undertones that make me feel a little uneasy. Diana's shot is - intentionally - very dynamic and sexual.

Ms. Leibovitz also did the same shot with Angelina Jolie, who, like Diana Ross was an adult and looked sexy. Maybe the problem is the lack of originality.

i agree with BMD in that i don't think it's terribly sexual or inappropriate. i just don't get the point of it. she's not a model in a fashion spread. she's a 15 year old celebrity made up to look (as someone as china blue awesomely said) post-coital. it's just a bit icky. clothes would be better.

Of all of the Annie Leibovitz's photos I've seen most are bad and good photos are only decent. I can't believe what she does to Nicole Kidman whenever she has a Vogue cover.

I just keep thing of "The Ring." The photographer/director should be fired. This is not artistic or beautiful at all. Would hate to see wedding photos by this photographer, they'd come out looking like scenes from "The Corpse Bride" or something. Talk about some Tim Burton sh**.

Did I just see a magazine ad for Disney with Mikhail Barishnikov as Peter Pan (!) and whatshername, the world-famous Brazilian underwear model, as Wendy, wherein the ad was followed by a pointless, breathless "the making of" page on how Annie Leibowitz shot . . . the ad? Which was itself laughable? Or was I dreaming?

Who wants their 15-year-old looking like this? The intentions might have been okay, but this just didn't turn out right.

Jumping off of Daria's comment…she must be trying to segway into the adult population for fans. Trying to grow up too fast. Plus, Vanity Fair may have been smart about this and knew it would draw in people one way or another.

aries, she picked a bad time. I've seen her show and heard her music. She's not a good actress outside the world of Disney. She's not even a decent singer. Sht. She makes Ashlee Simpson look like Julie Andrews.

You also can't segway while you're in the middle of a tour and have your TV show to do. She's not Brooke Shields or Jodie Foster or Dakota Fanning. I would be more comfortable seeing Dakota like this because she's not a children's actor. She's a child actor who does pretty much only PG13 and above movies, mostly dramas.
