Wigging Out

Perhaps Beyonce should give her wigs to the U.S. Government to help with our current financial crisis. Rumor has it the superstar owns $1 million in wigs, which are "custom-made from real hair." Her "friend" told In Touch that her wigs are "part of the reason she looks so gorgeous," although I think many people, myself included, would argue that she looks better without the 500-lb lace fronts. The same friend says that the wigs don't go to waste — Bey donates castoffs to a charity for cancer sufferers. [Sun]

why the hell does she look so white? I mean, what the fuck. I have such a huge peeve for South Asian and Black women who try to look white and blonde as much as possible. It pisses me off.

everybody, we're supposed to adhere to the NAZI ARYAN BEAUTY IDEAL. That's what we all should obey and bow down to!

This is so unfair. Now everybody knows that Tyra has more lacefronts.

Ladies would you want a sweated out, bigger than life Beyonce wig if you had cancer. How would you go to the mall in that? I bet you would just rock a dignified baldy or head wrap.

DFP its ok if Beyonce looks a like white sometimes, have you heard her in an interview? She sounds like she was taught diction by the cast of ROOTS.

She looks great and sings well but they shoul give her diction lessons. She sounds so stupid when interviewed. Not that she IS she just sounds that way!

i don't understand. why does straight white hair have to be the beauty ideal? she's such a lovely lady…i wish she would let the wigs go and be real.

i've always thought natural hair looked best on everyone…every woman is totally entitled to do whatever she damn well pleases with her hair but i wish more people would just let themselves be.

those wigs can't be comfortable and hair dye and straighteners/perms have way too many weird chemicals to be good for you. =(

She doesn't look nice in "some" of those wigs but she's too dependent on them..Let your hair breathe girl, its ok to go natural, the white ppl will still like you.

When I first started wondering about why many black celebrities and celebrities in general wear wigs, I was told by someone that the harshness of the stage lights and the franticness of their lifestyles make it nearly impossible for them to wear their own hair. Apparently–and actually I know this as a fact–stage lights blazing and when you stand under them for long enough it is comparable to standing under the hooded dryer the stylists put you under at the salon.

Top that off with the fact that someone like Beyonce sweats profusely during shows–and probably wears a primer that makes sure she doesn't sweat visibly–but such a thing doesn't exist for the scalp and I am sure it would be nearly impossible for her to keep her own hair in order. You remember when she first came out, she was wearing her own hair for the most part, but she also wasn't performing and out and about like every day.

Cut her some slack, she's an entertaining. Now if she were a normal woman, I'd raise a fuss for sure.

I once did a dance show under lights and such and even with breaks, my natural hair became a sweaty, drippy mess. That doesn't phase me in the club but on camera it was NOT my best look. In the entertainment industry, they have various stylists tugging and doing all kinds of crap to their hair much more than normal people do. So, if they wore their own hair and let that happen, it would fall out as some of their white counterparts have experienced by changing haircolors all the time, etc. My hair is down my back, but I'd be damned if I let some stylist style, spray, curl and fluff my hair daily just so it could end up on the floor. Give the sister a break!

I recall hearing that Beyonce does wear her hair natural under those wigs. She doesn't have a relaxer but she does color it (Her mom used to be a liscensed hair stylist, so she could probably do a mean press). Like others stated, working under those stage lights would reek havoc on ones hair, so I understand the wigs/lace fronts. But damn, why do they always have to be blonde?

Leave Beyonce alone. She's doing what's best for her hair, while in this industry. I model and wear wigs when doing so. I've already had a "professional" hair stylist perm and color my hair on the same day. She made my hair fall out and my hair was to the middle of my back. I rock it naturally curly, now. I do agree with MeikMeik, though. She doesn't have to be blonde all the time, but if that's what makes her happy…so be it. It's her life.
